Saudi F1 : The Ultimate Fan Experience

Brief

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix at Jeddah Corniche Circuit is one of the World’s biggest sporting stages, where global motorsport, entertainment and fan culture collide.

Building on a long-standing F1 fan-zone relationship that began in Abu Dhabi, Saudi Motorsport Company tasked PurpleGlo with creating the 2023 Jeddah edition, an experience that could match the speed, precision and spectacle of the sport itself.

The challenge was bigger than building a fan zone. In a world where sports sponsorship is often reduced to branding, hospitality and passive visibility, the ambition was to create something fans could actively participate in. A destination that gave racegoers more than a backdrop. It had to bring them closer to the tension, skill and adrenaline of Formula 1, without ever stepping onto the track.

Solution

We designed and delivered an integrated motorsport fan experience built around one creative thesis: make fans feel the performance of F1.

Every touchpoint was created to turn spectatorship into participation. The signature moment was a custom-built VR pit stop challenge, placing fans inside the pressure of the pit crew as they raced against the clock to change tyres and service the car.

Around it, AR experiences brought drivers and machines within reach, motion-detection installations transformed movement into content, and sliding screens and projection-mapped environments helped tell the story of the sport with pace, drama and precision.

The result was not a sponsor booth. It was a connected fan zone that translated the world of F1 into playable, shareable and emotionally charged moments.

    Pyschology

Modern F1 fandom is built on proximity. Fans no longer just follow the race; they follow the pressure, personalities, split-second decisions and human stories behind the sport. With Drive to Survive helping bring a new generation into F1, the opportunity was to close the gap between spectator and participant, letting fans feel the speed, precision and adrenaline for themselves.

    Creativity

We built the fan zone around the emotional codes of Formula 1: pressure, performance, machinery and time. The signature VR pit stop challenge put fans inside the role of the crew, racing against the clock in a moment where milliseconds matter. Around it, AR, projection, motion and content systems created a connected world of speed and spectacle.

    Technology

AR, VR, motion detection, projection mapping, sliding screens, real-time content systems and animation were integrated into one high-performance fan environment. Each layer was engineered to feel instant, responsive and immersive, translating the technical intensity of F1 into experiences fans could play, capture and share.

IMPACT

Seven years on the F1 grid.

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix built on seven years of PurpleGlo delivering Formula 1 fan experiences across Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

In Jeddah, more than 50,000 fans engaged across 12 immersive activations, transforming race weekend into a hands-on journey of discovery, competition and participation.

By bringing fans closer to the technology, skill and adrenaline of Formula 1, the experience proved that the best fan zones don’t just entertain – they immerse. Built for race day. Designed for fans.
