DP World : Dubai Fitness Challenge

Brief

Dubai Fitness Challenge is built around a powerful civic idea: get the city moving for 30 minutes a day, for 30 days. At Kite Beach, that ambition becomes public, social and participatory.

In partnership with GPJ, PurpleGlo was brought in to help DP World, the headline activation partner, move beyond sponsorship visibility and create genuine participation. The challenge was to translate DP World’s global association with sport, performance and progress into something open, energetic and accessible for everyone.

Not intimidating. Not elite. Not just for athletes.

The brief was to build something families, friends and first-timers would queue to play, giving people a reason to get active, compete lightly and leave with a story worth sharing.

Solution

We designed and built a ten-zone immersive sports playground, turning movement into a connected, gamified journey.

Each zone was linked to a global sport, with scores captured and moments designed to be playable, social and shareable. From F1 pit stops and SailGP winch challenges to golf simulators, AR photo moments, digital grip tests and reaction games, the experience made fitness feel fun, accessible and rewarding.

At the heart of the build was our first-of-its-kind catch-and-throw cricket challenge, created in-house and combining multiple play mechanics into one connected game.

One sign-in. Ten challenges. One seamless journey that turned DP World’s sponsorship into active participation.

Fitness participation grows when the barrier to entry feels low and the reward feels immediate. Gyms and sports clubs can feel intimidating, so every challenge was designed to feel open, playful and achievable for all ages, genders and ability levels. Measure the effort, celebrate the score, make movement feel fun.

    Creativity

We grounded the experience in global sport because sport is an instantly understood language. F1, SailGP, cricket and golf gave guests recognisable worlds to step into, lowering the need for explanation and making each challenge feel familiar, competitive and shareable from the first interaction. The result was ten challenges that turned elite sporting cues into accessible moments of play.

    Technology

One sign-in. Ten connected experiences. Every score, photo and AR moment was captured under a single guest identity, powered by a custom backend, real-time leaderboards and sensor-driven gameplay that turned participation into progression.

IMPACT

A sponsor presence people queued to take part in.

At Dubai Fitness Challenge, the goal was not just visibility. It was participation. For DP World, the activation turned headline sponsorship into a live expression of movement, play and progress, giving thousands of visitors a reason to get active, compete and share.

Across thirty days on Kite Beach, the experience achieved an average dwell time of 12 minutes per guest, showing how the right immersive mechanic can turn a brand zone from something people pass by into something they actively seek out.

The ten-zone journey used global sport as an accessible gateway into fitness culture, while our in-house catch-and-throw cricket challenge introduced a new participatory format to the regional activation scene.
A model for how global brands can show up at public events. Not as logos, but as experiences people choose to join.
